Slaves • Slaves were captured people from wars. • Some were treated nicely, others not so much. • They were not really a part of the feudal system, but they are barley lower than serfs.

Serfs • Serfs are the lowest class, on top of slaves barley. • They were always very poor. • Life was very hard for them, they had nothing going for them.

Knights • The knights main job was to protect the people, they got paid well to do so. • They were very brave and gentlemanly. • The knights were always working very hard in order to impress the king and move up in class to become a noble; they were the only class that could do this.

Tenants-in-chief (noble) • The nobles were the religious leaders, like the priests and popes. • Since the church was held very highly in society, they were just below the king and respected very much.

Kings/queens (royalty) • They made all the rules, and were in absolute power. • Everybody listened to them without question.

Feudalism • Feudalism is the relationship between those ranked in a chain of association. • Feudalism worked because the mutual obligation for everybody to do their part in society and not question how things are done. • Fief is land given by a lord in return for loyalty. • Tithe is a tax the serfs paid. • Corvee is a condition of unpaid labor by the serfs.
