INTRODUCTION q Satellite are an attractive option for carrying Internet & other IP traffic across the globe. But the internet protocol which we use on land are not optimized for satellite. q The Sky X Technology is the evolution of XTP & SKY X gateway. 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 3

Why sky x Technology ? q Internet protocols(TCP/IP) are not optimized for satellite conditions so the throughput over the satellite networks decreases to only a fraction of available bandwidth. q Satellites are ideal for providing internet & private network over long distance. q the satellite conditions adversely interact with a number of elements of the TCP architecture, including it’s window sizing, congestion avoidance algorithms & data acknowledgment mechanisms. 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 4

Why Sky X technology (continues) Thus the advantages achieved by TCP in LAN's are no longer effective in the satellite link. So it was desirable to design a separate protocol for communication through the satellite to eliminate the disadvantages of using TCP over satellite Thus We need sky x technology. 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 5

WORKING q. Sky X products do combinations of connectionsplitting & data compression. q. The Sky X system delivers the Web objects to the Sky X gateway on the client side of the satellite link where they can be served locally when requested by the browser, avoiding the satellite delay. components: 1. XTP 2. X-Gateway 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 6

q. Xpress Transport Protocol (XTP) is a transport layer protocol for high-speed networks promoted by the XTP Forum developed to replace TCP. q XTP provides protocol options for error control, flow control, and multicast mode. Instead of separate protocols for each type of communication, XTP controls packet exchange patterns to produce different models. 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 7

Characteristics of XTP q. Error control q. Flow control q. Byte ordering q. Multicast mode q. Multi packet handshaking 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 8

Sky X gateway q. The Sky X gateways works by replacing TCP connections from the client & converting the data to Xpress Transport protocol (XTP). q Translates the data back to TCP for communication with the server. This architecture offers vastly improved performance while remaining entirely transparent to the end user and fully compactable with the internet infrastructure. q No changes are required to the client or server and all applications continue to function without modification. 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 9

Sky X merits q Sky X system allows users to take full advantage of the available bandwidth. q Transparently enhances the performance of all users on a satellite network & increases web performance by 3 times or more & file transfer speeds by 10 to 100 times. q Entirely transparent to end users, works with all TCP applications & does not require any modifications to end client & servers. q Increase the performance of IP over satellite through a combination of protocol connection-splitting, data compression. 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 10

Future Enhancement q. Xip. Link developed by xiplink incorporation which is under development will enhance the Sky X more. q. The sky x technology is capable of handling bulk of data which will be there in future as we are now talking about 1. Smarter planet. 2. Infomation super highway 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 11

Conclusion q. Developed just to solve the problems faced by TCP/IP in satellite communication but it’s enhanced form that is Xip. Link will be the need in concepts of information super highway & smarter planet like things. 3/5/2021 made by Naveen singh & Mazaharul haque, FGIET 12
