Skopos theory - Vermeer • Translate/interpret/speak/write in a way that enables your text/translation to function in the situation in which it is used and with the people who want to use it and precisely in the way they want it to function. (Vermeer in Nord)

Functionalism - Nord • The translation commission should provide: text function, target reader characteristics, time and place of reception, the medium, ST information • ST analysis : topic, cohesion, communicative context, text structure, terminology, register. • TT solutions: decide intended function, adapt elements of ST, identify TT style
