Your child has been learning about Spring. • As you look at the spring pages for April and May find the pictures of spring vocabulary words (rubber boots, puddles, umbrellas, daffodils etc. ) with your child. You can even play “I Spy”. • Talk about the vocabulary words. For example, discuss what the word means or when/what it is used for, what type of thing it is (e. g. , daffodil is a spring flower) try and use description for color, size, and material. • Model by use the word in a sentence and have your child use the word in a sentence too. “The girl is holding an umbrella”- then expand what he/she says. “The girl is holding an umbrella with flowers.
Modeling Language • Check out the language modeling post at hpsathome. com. Here a few tips. • Provide good grammar models, restating what your child has said in a more adult way. “Her walking”- “She is walking, in the rain” • You can use this book to help your child make sentences with pronouns (he/she/they, him/her, his/ her) “His coat is green. What about this boy? • You can also use this book to work on categories “clothes for rain” as well as following directions and concepts “Count all the umbrellas”. “Point to everyone inside a house”. Show me who is not outside.
