Beginnings Sondre Aursen Nordheim, a Norwegian carpenter is proclaimed to be father of ski sports. First skiing club was called "Trysil Shooting and Skiing Club" and it was founded in 1861. Five years later the first ski competition "Holmenkollen Nordic” (now called “Nordic Tournament”) was held in Holmenkollen. First official record in ski jumping was established by Norwegian called Harald Smith. It was 48 metres. The technique of ski jumping was different. During a jumper moved his hands like a bird to make the jump longer.
