What’s New? Over the next 6 weeks we will studying the novel Skellig by David Almond. In this unit you will: Ø Develop your reading skills by engaging with a novel and completing various activities relating to each chapter Ø Explore characters and events within the novel Ø Develop your writing skills by exploring tension and suspense and then rewriting a chapter of the book Ø Improve your communication and presentation skills through group presentations, drama and class debates Ø Recap what PEE is and be able to write PEE paragraphs Ø Debate the issue of home-schooling and write a structured essay about it Ø Compare the book with the film adaptation Ø…and lots more!
Predicting What might the book be about? What genre could the book belong to? What could the plot be? Who could be the main characters?
Group Presentation In your groups you will each examine a cover from the book Skellig. Your task is to look at your cover and use it to help you make predictions about the text including: v Genre v Characters v Plot Discuss your ideas as a group and then prepare a short presentation to the rest of the class.
Reading Let’s begin to read the novel. Turn to Chapter 1.
