MUSCLE CELLS: Muscle cells are cells in our body that we control, they are responsible for movement. There are 3 types of muscle cells. 1. Skeletal muscle cell 2. Smooth muscle cell 3. Cardiac muscle cell
DIFFERENCES OF MUSCLE CELLS SKELETAL MUSCLE CELL - Attached to bones - Responsible for skeletal movement - Many nuclei - Controlled by central nervous system (CNS) - Straight shape with transverse streaks SMOOTH MUSCLE CELL - Found in wall of hollow organs inside our body (for example blood vessels) - One central nucleus - Spindle shape - Contracts slowly in a rhythm CARDIAC MUSCLE CELL - Found in walls of the heart - One central nucleus - Straighten rectangular shape - Strong contraction in a rhythm - Controlled by autonomic nervous system.
SHAPE
Where is Skeletal muscle cell ?
There’re blood and nerve cells in our muscle !!
FUN FACTS ? 640 -830
FUN FACTS ? From 640 muscles in our body How many muscle do you think We are needed to use to take a step 200 of 650
FUN FACTS ? Do you know which muscle is the strongest muscle of human ? tongue
ORGANELLES ◉ Nuclei ◉ Mitrochondrion ◉ T- tubes ◉ Sarcoplasmic Reticulum ◉ Myofibrils ◉ Sarcolemma
Body Movement (Contraction and Relaxation) Maintenance of Posture Homeostasis (Production of body heat) FUNCTIONS Communication (Verbal and Facial) Constriction of organs and vessels Support soft tissues
THE IMPORTANT OF SKELETAL MUSCLE CELLS Your muscle needs to move to be able to perform certain actions, which means that cells must be functioning. If there are no skeletal muscle cells or the cells do not function well, then daily activities such as walking, running, lifting and so on cannot be performed. Without the skeletal muscle cells, we will lose one of the most important characteristics of life - movement.
What is UNIQUE about the skeletal muscle cell • Are able to stretch and resume original shape. • Are directly attached to the skeleton by tendons. • Appear striped under a microscope. Also called striated muscle. (Striated appearance comes from formation of actin and myosin muscle fibres. ) • Skeletal muscle is controlled by the somatic nervous system, and the cardiac muscles are, by nature, involuntarily controlled. • Skeletal muscle cells are multinucleated (many nucleus)
DISEASE AND TREATMENT
Muscular Dystrophy (MD) ◉ MORE THAN 30 SPECIFIC TYPES ◉ WEAKENING AND BREAKDOWN OF SKELETAL MUSCLES GRADUALLY ◉ MUTATIONS IN GENES(DYSTROPHIN) THAT ARE INVOLVED IN MAKING MUSCLE PROTEINS ◉ CHROMOSOME X
TREATMENT ◉ NO CURE ◉ SYMPTOMATIC TREATMENT ◉ CORTICOSTEROID TO SLOW MUSCLE DEGENERATION
