Preparing for Sixth Form. 1. Summer Tasks Summer tasks for all subjects are accessed via the web-site. https: //www. kesgrave. suffolk. sch. uk/sixthform/summer-tasks/ These must be completed for the beginning of the term regardless of whether you change a subject.

Preparing for Sixth Form. 3. Year 11 -12 Transition Activities 2020 Subject teachers have created a great set of activities for you to use over the summer to keep you thinking! These are separate to your summer tasks – and will be really useful to help you start tackling A level courses.
Preparing for Sixth Form. 4. MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) are online, interactive courses that give you the chance to study with top universities around the world. These might include video lectures, articles, discussions, assignments and social networking. MOOCs don’t always lead to formal qualifications, but they do mean you can gain knowledge in all sorts of areas. You might use a MOOC to develop career skills, prepare for other education, or explore a new interest. There are usually no entry requirements for MOOCs. Because they take place online, MOOCs can grow very big. Preparing for Sixth Form. 6. Log book. We have created a document for you to log the activities you are doing at home. Please fill this in and bring with you to Sixth Form in September. Your form tutor will discuss this with you as it’s a vital opportunity to build your portfolio of skills and experiences that will help you applying for post 18 options. • Tasks could include… • Extra curricular activities – sports training, playing an instrument, learning a new skill, volunteering etc • MOOCs TED talks or Positively MAD videos from Youtube • Study skills tasks or online course Tasks from the newsletter • Transition activities

GCSE Results & Sixth Form Enrolment - Thursday 20 th August • Arrangement are now in place for you to collect your results. You will be sent a time slot and venue to collect your results from – and will be required to follow current social distancing rules. • Mrs Williamson will also be available if you need her help with plans for next year. • If you are unable to come in to school because you are self-isolating or for any other reason please contact the school for alternate arrangements. • If you had previously told us you were on holiday on this date – but can now attend please also let us know.
Sixth Form Enrolment. You will meet with someone from the Sixth Form Team after collecting your results. This conversation can include… • Answering any questions you may have • Changing one of your subjects because you would like to take something different • Changing one of your subjects because your GCSE result in that subject wasn’t high enough • Telling us that you aren’t coming to the sixth-form! • Helping you with the summer tasks or transition work we have introduced you to today. • Asking students to act as a buddy for a new student in September You will also be told who your form tutor is and given your form room. Timetables will be available on Firefly in September. Enrolment for students new to KHS will be on Friday 21 st August. You will also be contacted by Mrs Scalco regarding timetables.

A survival guide to starting Sixth-Form
When does term begin? The Autumn term is currently planned to begin for Year 12 on Friday 4 th September. This is subject to change due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. It is possible that some of the following may affect year 12 students. We will be informing you of the final plans for September as soon as we are able to do so.
What to wear? Dress Code - this is a place of work and learning. You need to be comfortable when studying and staff need to be comfortable teaching you Inappropriate ◦ Cropped tops, very shorts or skirts ◦ Offensive Clothing and Logos We expect all students to observe our dress code - if we believe a student is dressed inappropriately they will be sent home to change.
What do I bring? Ring binder for each subject – with dividers Lined A 4 pad of paper Laptop Stationery applicable to your subjects Diary USB drive. Lunch! There will be no food service available at the beginning of term.
Where do I go, and when? o. Please arrive for 9 am and go straight to your Form Room – check your timetable for rooming. A one-way system will be in place around the school – please follow the signs. o. You will then go to your first lesson at 10 am - new students will be partnered by a KHS buddy to their lessons for the first couple of weeks o. If you are ill a parent/carer should telephone Mrs Smith on the direct Sixth Form number: 01473 618993 or email her at csmith@kesgrave. suffolk. sch. uk to explain this by 9 am. (We recommend that students have this number in their phone too. ) o. Unless you are given different information when you enrol we expect all Year 12 students to remain on site during the school day until 3. 35 pm.
The Sixth Form Phone policy o. The school now operates an ‘On site, out of sight’ policy. o This policy applies to all Sixth Formers outside of the ‘Sixth–Form only’ areas. This means if your phone is visible it can be confiscated by any member of staff at any time o In lessons your phone should be in your bag. Teachers will ask you to get them out if they are needed. o You can make calls in 6 th form classrooms during a study period/lunch or in the Meetings Room o. You can use your phone in the LRA/CMLRA – but not for making calls.
