WHY STUDY BUSINESS? • Through Business Studies A-level, you'll engage with the world of business through the context of current business developments and real business situations. • You'll learn how management, leadership and decision-making can improve performance in marketing, operational, financial and human resources. • You'll also explore the interrelated nature of business activities and how they affect businesses, be they large or small, UK or internationally focused and in different sectors such as service or manufacturing.
COURSE DESCRIPTION • YEAR 12 (AS) – UNIT 1 – BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES – UNIT 2 – BUSINESS FUNCTIONS • YEAR 13 (A 2) – UNIT 3 – BUSINESS ANALYSIS AND STRATEGY – UNIT 4 – BUSINESS IN A CHANGING WORLD • You do not need to have studied Business before, but a good standard of comprehension and written English required. Some numeracy skills are needed, but the focus would be on logical skills
ASSESSMENT • YEAR 12 (AS) – UNIT 1 – BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES • 15% - 1 hour 15 minute exam – UNIT 2 – BUSINESS FUNCTIONS • 25% - 2 hour exam • YEAR 13 (A 2) – UNIT 3 – BUSINESS ANALYSIS AND STRATEGY • 30% - 2 hour 15 minute exam – UNIT 4 – BUSINESS IN A CHANGING WORLD • 30% - 2 hour 15 minute exam
CAREER PROGRESSION AND SUBJECT COMBINATIONS • A Business qualification will help you understand how businesses operate and will allow you to take a leadership or management role within them. • Depending on your next steps, it can lead to a career in accounting, consulting, sales, retail, hospitality, media, marketing, advertising, human resources and many more! • You will learn how to apply theory into real life situations and also the ability to think analytically and critically. These are all transferable skills to many different jobs and industries • Business always combines well with other humanities subjects such as History and Geography. You may also wish to combine it with Politics, English or Maths.
