AS and A Level • New linear A levels • You can start with three or four A levels • Most finish with three A levels. Russell Group universities want three good A level grades only • AS exams are now a separate qualification and are not linked to the A level • AS exams are voluntary. Far fewer now taken than in the past
The EPQ – Extended Project Qualification • Universities are impressed by an EPQ, particularly if it is related to the course that you are applying for. • The EPQ is an individual research based project. It requires a lot of self motivation and a good work ethic. • Normally it is a 5000 essay together with a presentation to a small audience. Students have to reflect on the process as they go along in a formal log. • Timescale – start November Year 12, finish December Year 13

What’s Next? Entry Requirements • Candidates must achieve a minimum of 40 points at GCSE • A* = 8. 5 points, A = 7 points, B = 5. 5 points, C = 4 points, D = 3 points • Points for all the new GCSEs will be on a 1 -9 point scale • At least a Level 7 at GCSE in the following subjects in order to study that subject at A Level: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, French and Spanish. • At least a Level 8 at GCSE Maths to study Further Maths at A-level. • At least a Level 5 in English and Maths at GCSE
