Sixth Form Induction 2020 AS/A Level Business Studies Welcome…. . SUCCESS CRITERIA: • To understand how the course is structured and examined. • To understand the requirements and how to be successful at AS/A Level Business
AS LEVEL BUSINESS STUDIES (Eduqas/WJEC) Year 12 • Component 1 – Business Opportunities. 1 hr exam. 40% • Enterprise, Business Plans, Market Research, Business Structure, Location, Finance, Costs and Revenue. • Component 2 – Business Functions. 2 hr exam 60%. Data response questions and choice of an essay. • Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations Management. The TWO exams are taken at the end of the AS course in May/June 2021.
A LEVEL BUSINESS STUDIES (Eduqas/WJEC) Year 13 • Component 1 – Business Opportunities & Functions • Same content as Component 1 & 2 on AS. • Component 2 – Business Analysis & Strategy • Data response questions • Data/Market Analysis, Sales Forecasting, Financial Performance, Aims & Objectives, Strategy, Decision Making, Investment Appraisal, Special Orders. • Component 3 – Business in a Changing World. • Case study and essay question • Change, Risk Management, PEST: Political, Economic, Social Technological Factors, Ethics, Legal, Environmental, International Trade, Globalisation, European Union. All Components equally weighted and all exams are 2 hrs 15 mins each. These exams are taken at the end of the course in June 2022.
Why study AS/A Level Business? Business student responses…. . I have a deep interest in the subject. The topics covered are interesting and allows me a deeper insight into the business world. Useful in everyday life! My favourite topic is Workforce Planning as I could relate to it having a job myself. If you work hard, you will do well. It is a versatile subject for future careers and university courses. It is enjoyable and interesting to learn more about the world around us and how the economy functions. It is very interesting. The diversity of subjects covered can help broaden your everyday understanding of topics, I would strongly recommend it. It is so intriguing – it covers so much content which gives a great insight into the business world – it allows more doors to open. It can open up several career paths as it links into several subjects and jobs. Knowledge can be applied to the real world. “The problem is not the problem, the problem is your attitude towards the problem”. The quote that got me through the AS course. Also the best advice was to start revising from the very start!
Success at AS/A Level • Attendance & Punctuality is vital • • Organised with folders/notes, taking appropriate notes. Thinking of business in general, not just separate topics. • Revision – from the start! • Listening carefully, asking questions, creating discussions. • Homework – quality and meeting deadlines – allows teachers feedback for YOU to improve. • Learn to put forward opinions and judgements. • • Independent learning and research • Team work & supporting each other Interest and passion in the subject is crucial, so that you enjoy your learning journey in Business Studies! • Extra reading around topics to develop awareness in the real business world • Keep up to date with current business news – websites, newspapers and programmes • Looking at past papers and questions
