Stockton Sister Cities Association n In 2005, the Nigerian Association of Central California requested the Stockton Sister Cities Association develop a sister city relationship with Nigeria. This past year, the Nigerian Association of Central California and Stockton Sister Cities Association and the Oshimili South Local Nigerian State have been working together to build a sister city relationship. On March 6, 2006, the Board of Directors of the Stockton Sister Cities Association approved adding Asaba, Nigeria as the seventh sister city for Stockton, California.

Asaba, Nigeria n n Asaba is the Delta State Capital of Nigeria with a population 500, 000. City is located on a hill at the western edge of the majestic River Niger. Asaba forms a connector between western, eastern and northern Niger through the River Niger. City is the major agriculture community and oil rich delta state of Nigeria.

Next Steps n n n Legislative Environmental Committee recommended staff forward to City Council to add Asaba, Nigeria as the Seventh Sister City on June 6, 2006. Upon approved by the City Council, the Sister Cities Association of Stockton will forward the request to the Sister City International in Alexandria, Virginia. Agreement will be official once the document has been executed by the Mayor and the Chief of City of Asaba, Nigeria.
