2018 SUMIT UPDATE Siskiyou Unified Major Investigations Team • Arrests = 61; Search Warrants = 32 • Heroin Seized = 10, 644. 3 grams (“Big increase”) (+) • Methamphetamine = 46, 957 grams (2016) (12, 412 grams seized in ‘ 18) (+) • Marijuana Seized = 617. 28 pounds • Concentrated Cannabis Seized = 314. 2 grams • Pharmaceuticals = 378 pills (-) • 83 Firearms Seized (+) • $104, 985, 00. 00 Drug Trafficking Currency Seized
2018 SUMIT “Key Points” Siskiyou Unified Major Investigations Team • Heroin seizures are up significantly in county • Methamphetamine still a “problem” (Steady) • SUMIT helps other agencies with major crimes and highway seizures (helped with murder investigation involving Mr. Hunter Sims – Suspect Eddie Dodge) • DEC – Drug Endangered Children a key focus • Meth, Heroin, Marijuana, Prescription drugs, “Hash Oil” are major challenges for county • Huge increase in firearms seized (83 in 2018 compared to 12 in 2017)
Recommendations siskiyou Unified Major Investigations Team • Sustain joint task forces – They pay big dividends • Support SARA, SUMIT, drug court, & rehabilitation efforts Keys to success to combat opioids, meth, and marijuana, etc. • Drug prevention (kids) such as DARE and partnership with BHS (“Athletes Committed” & “Keeping it Real”) are VITAL • Recommend Board write letter to CA DOJ to urge continued support for SUMIT and NSMIT (I can draft) • Recommend Board urge more agencies to participate • Public safety threats are growing and require our attention (83 firearms seized from crooks - 2018 compared to 12 in ‘ 17) • SCSO participation along with other agencies beneficial
