Sir James Jebusa Shannon nasceu em Aubur, Nova York, Estados Unidos, em 1862. Com oito anos de idade foi levado por seus pais para o Canadá. Teve suas primeiras lições de Arte com William E. Wright. Biography: Sir James Jebusa Shannon was born in Aubur, New York, United States, in 1862. With eight years of age he was taken by his parents to Canada. He had his first lessons in Art with William E. Wright. In 1878 he moved to England, where he studied at the “South Kensington”, and three years later he won the gold medal for painting portraits. In 1886 he married Florence Mary Cartwright and they had a daughter. During the mid-1880 s, Shannon commandedthe field of British portraiture. He was an early member of the “New English Art Club” and, in 1897, he was elected as an associateof the “Royal Academy”. He was President of the “Royal Society of Portrait Painters”from 1910 to 1923, and was knightedin 1922. His painting, “The Flower Girl” was bought by the “National Gallery of British Art” in 1901. Shannon has paintingsin the collection of various British institutions, including “Sheffield”, “Derby Art Gallery”, “Glasgow Museum” and “Bradford Museum”. He died in 1923 at 61 years of age.
