SUMMARY The excerpt from “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” tells about how God’s hand just barely keeps the individual from falling down into hell. One’s guilt from sinning may build up over time, and the more it builds up, the more wrath that is being created by God. However, He is the only one strong enough to keep people out of the pit of hell. His pleasure is the only thing saving sinners from going to hell because of their actions. God abhors sinners, but at the same time keeps them from falling to hell, as if they were hanging by a thread.

QUOTES FROM SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GOD “There is no reason

QUOTES FROM SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GOD “There is no reason to be given why you have not gone to Hell, since you have sat here in the house of God, provoking his pure eyes by your sinful wicked manner of attending his solemn worship. ” Edwards is saying that everyone is going to Hell eventually because they have either infuriated God or committed an immoral act. By using the words “sinful wicked manner, ” he wants to convey the idea that everybody is morally wrong and deserves condemnation. To avoid Hell, one has to remain faithful and follow all of God’s rules.

QUOTES FROM SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GOD “His wrath towards you

QUOTES FROM SINNERS IN THE HANDS OF AN ANGRY GOD “His wrath towards you burns like fire, he looks upon you as worthy or nothing else, but to be cast into the fire, he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight, you are ten thousand times more abominable in his eyes, than the most hateful and venomous serpent is in ours. ” In this quote, Edwards is saying that every person is worthless, and that God has contempt for everyone. When the author compares the way God sees people as worse than the way we serpents, he wants to emphasize the extent to which God despises how people act and what people think.

CONNECTIONS TO THE CRUCIBLE Proctor To Parris “I have trouble enough without I come

CONNECTIONS TO THE CRUCIBLE Proctor To Parris “I have trouble enough without I come five miles to hear him preach only hellfire and bloody damnation. Take it to heart Mr. Parris there are many others away from church these days because you hardly mention God anymore”(Miller 28 -29) Proctor doesn’t have a great liking toward Parris because he believes that he preaches many things that have no connection to God. The view of that towards Parris leads tension and problems between the two. Proctor not going to church due to personal problems will be a sin to many in the town and be used as reasons of accusations.

THESIS STATEMENT -Although many of the characters from the crucible were able to analyze

THESIS STATEMENT -Although many of the characters from the crucible were able to analyze that the value of credibility is very significant in evaluating people’s faith in court; John Proctor was able to reveal that no sin is overlooked by God. What this addresses is that throughout The Crucible, many of the people convicted of witchery were able to convince the court that they were the victims even though they had been apart of the rituals going on in the forest. Abigail especially was seen dancing in the woods but was able to convince the court that it was just innocent fun. On the other hand, John Proctor had told the court that he had committed the crime of adultery, and believed that he would now rid his sins by being hanged, even if the court believed he was being hanged by the crime of witchcraft. He knew he had to be punished for his actions and accepted the consequences that were given to him.
