Week 3 task 1 In order to demonstrate your understanding of how technical aspects of film and television production can manipulate audiences and create specific mood and emotion you will analyse: one short one minute film ( watched in class or one chosen by yourself), a scene from the film a scene from the TV series. You are going to look at an analyse the following:

 Type of shots used (what each shot communicates and how does it contributes

Type of shots used (what each shot communicates and how does it contributes to development of the narrative) Camera directions (type of camera directions used) ( Setting / location (what does the setting / location communicates or tell us about the narrative and the characters) Narrative structure (how has the story been told; linear, non linear, use of flash back etc. and why) Sound ( comment on the sound in your chosen examples, what sound can you hear? Is it dialogue, music, SFX etc. How does the sound support the narrative in your chosen examples)

 Lighting ( What kind of lighting has been used, and for what reason)

How does the editing helps in pacing the narrative of the story) Mise en scene ( What does the setting, props, dress code etc. tell us about characters.
