�Over one billion people around the world are affected by violence not related to conflicts, according to a report released on Wednesday. �The first Global Status Report on Violence Prevention has been jointly issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). �It says that while the majority of murder victims are men, women and children suffer from physical and sexual violence, consequences that often last a lifetime.

What's important to stress, however, is that a lot of violence in the family and the community does not end up in necessarily in death but affect many other people with many consequences. One in four children reports having been physical abused in the world. One in three women has been a victim of physical sexual intimate partner violence in her lifetime.
