Short introduction into CERN • The largest particle physics laboratory in the world • Search for the basic consistence of matter – the fundamental particles • And therefore provide the particle accelerator chain and equipment for high energy particle physics injection extraction LINAC 11/6/2015 Intermediate Talk 3

Kicker function • Kicker are used to convey the particle beam from one accelerator into an other • An electric impulse creates a magnetic field which then distracts the beam 11/6/2015 Intermediate Talk 4

Motivation I • The used ferrites show very high magnetic polarization losses due to the magnetic field created by the beam • Ferrite heats up, vacuum degrades and loss of the ferrites magnetic properties are possible • The beam induced magnetic field must be prevented from penetrating the ferrite • In extraction kicker serigraphy (printed pattern) was applied to prevent that 11/6/2015 Intermediate Talk 5

Motivation II • Serigraphy works as shielding of the magnet • Provides the induced image currents an low impedance bypass and thus shields the ferrite • As this is not applicable for the injection kickers another solution has to be found 11/6/2015 Intermediate Talk 6
