Why SIMSTAT - Principles § Creation of an additional data source by making the exchange of micro-data on intra-EU exports among Member States compulsory § Strongly simplify the reporting requirements for MS on the import side. MS may decide to what extent these data are used together with other sources in the compilation of the imports § Enhance the quality of statistical information on the export side. § In addition, this will work as an enabler for countries to reduce their surveys on the intra-EU import side

Pilot Exchange § A pilot exchange of trader-level micro-data on intra-EU exports took place during the period April 2015 – October 2015 § 20 Member States participated in the pilot exchange § During this period the participating MSs exchanged microdata for the reference period: 2013, 2014 and January – August 2015 (32 months). § Revisions of the monthly data were also exchanged
