WHAT IS simplevocab • With Simple Vocab you can create and define a controlled vocabulary for any field using a simple interface. • It even helps you build vocabularies using existing texts. • It saves on time • It helps to keep you consistent in your terminology • IT’S IMPORTANT • Only you (as the administrator) know what the terms are so be careful if you allow others to up-load content onto your site (they won’t know what ‘vocabulary’ you used).
WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN USING simplevocab • Become familiar with the content • Understand the context of the content • What is the emphasis of the collection I have chosen? • What is the scope of items in my collection • Decide on the role and utility of the controlled vocab • Enables users to identify desired content • Allows for the association of similar materials by subject • Allows for better browsing
Before installing simplevocab • Prior to installation, your navigation bar should look like this: Items Collections Item Types Tags Browse Plugins (4 total) General Settings Plugins Themes Users Element Sets Security Settings COin. After installing simplevocab • Once this has been installed you should be able to see it on your navigation bar Items Collections Item Types Tags Exhibits Simple. Vocab • Click on “Simple Vocab” plugin on the top to enter Simple Vocab page.
After installing simplevocab Items Element Collections Item Types Tags Exhibits Simple. Vocab Select Below Select an element to manage its custom vocabulary. Elements with a custom vocabulary are marked with an asterisk (*). Vocabulary Terms Enter the custom vocabulary terms for this element, one per line. To delete the vocabulary, simply remove the terms and submit this form. • There are two items on the left side, element and vocabulary terms. Click on the drop down button beside “element” to select the element for which you will create vocabularies.

Examples of a Contributor include a person, an organization, or a service. Typically, the name of a Contributor should be used to indicate the entity. See Dublin Core to get an idea of what the elements field mean.
