When should we use Simple Present Tense? § “First, Simple Present Tense is used to say that something was true in the past, is true in the present, and will be true in the future. It expresses general statements of fact and timeless truths. ” (Azar, 1999, p. 13) § Example: The sun rises from the east. § “Second, it is used to express habitual or everyday activities. ” (Azar, 1999, p. 13) § Example: We study English every Friday.
Basic Patterns § Positive Statement: S (I, you, we, they, plural noun) + V 1 +. . . S (he, she, it, singular noun) + V 1 (-s/-es) +. . . § Examples: 1. I eat rice everyday. 2. We rarely go to the library. 3. They often play guitar in the evening. 4. He never does their homework. 5. She reads books every night.
