Simple Pendulum Objective Measurement of g gravitational acceleration
Simple Pendulum
Objective: Measurement of g (gravitational acceleration) from a simple pendulum experiment. Tools: stopwatch, thread, small ball, holder pendulum, procedure.
Theory: To find for the value of acceleration due to gravity (g), we use this formula: g = 4π2 x 1 slope *
Steps : 1. Use different Length (from 40 cm to 80 cm). 2. Measure the time of 20 oscillations in every length. 3. Calculate for the period ( T 2 ) 4. Draw a relationship between (L) and (T 2). 5. Find the slope of the graph. 6. Calculate the acceleration of gravity.
Results Length (cm) Length (m) 40 50 60 70 80 slope = g = time (sec) T (time/20) T 2 sec 2
Conclusion : The graph shows ________relationship and the value of gravity is ______. Question: The period of a simple pendulum is measured on Earth to be T. If the same pendulum is taken to the Moon, its period on the Moon’s surface will be (a) less than T. (c) equal to T .
