What is past tense? • A verb is a ‘doing word’ – it is something you do. • The past tense is something that happened in the past. It has happened and ended.
These are regular verbs. We do the same thing to make them past tense – can you see what we do? walk jump ask help open walked jumped asked helped opened
-ed is added to make them past tense. Some regular verbs add –ed but the spelling changes. We are not looking at these verbs today.

Choose one set of words from the last column, or next to last column, that go with your verb. You can say or write your sentence. Examples: Last week we asked the teacher. Yesterday I jumped over the rope. Once you are confident you can make it more difficult by adding in adjectives and making your sentences longer by using conjunctions (and, but, because).
