Simple Machines l l l A machine with few or no moving parts. Simple machines make work easier. There are 6 different kinds of simple machines. l l l Lever Screw Wedge Wheel and Axle Pulley Inclined Plane Slides 1 -2 and 20 by Tyler
The Lever The lever is a flat plank or board, that balances on the tip of the fulcrum. Slides 3 -5 by Jazmyn
What is the lever used for? p The lever is used for lifting heavy objects. p Examples: door on hinges, seesaw, hammer, and a bottle opener

Screw A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a shaft or cylinder. It is somewhat like a spiral staircase. The screw moves itself or another object when rotating. Slides 6 -8 by Lexi
Examples of Screws are found in many things such as clocks, keyholes, tools, and meat grinders.
More Examples Screws are used for awesome cars!!! They are also used in jar lids and swivel bar stools.
The Wedge Instead of using the smooth side of the inclined plane, you can also use the pointed edges to do other kinds of work. Slides 9 -10 by Ryan
A Wedge
Wheel and Axle • Has a larger wheels connected to a smaller cylinder axle that is fastened to the wheel so that the wheels can turn together. • When the axle is turned, the wheel moves better and farther than the axle, but less force is needed. • The axle moves a shorter distance than the wheel, but it takes greater force to move it. Slides 11 -12 by Courtney
Examples: A wagon, some door knobs, toy cars, bikes, fans, record players, roller skates, wind mills, egg beaters, and pencil sharpeners are all examples of wheels.
A Pulley § Pulley: • A wheel that usually has a groove around the outside edge • Pulling down on the rope can lift an object attached to the rope. • Work is made easier • Pulling down on the rope is easier to do because of gravity. Slides 13 -14 by Ashley

Inclined Plane Inclined plane: A sloping surface, such as a ramp. An inclined plane can be used to make work easer it is involved in doing work, such as lifting loads. It is easer to move things up stairs. And but less force is needed Slides 15 -17 by Collin
