Congruent Figures • Congruent figures have the same size and shape. • They have corresponding sides that are congruent. • They have corresponding angles that are congruent. These trapezoids are congruent.

Figures that have the same size and shape are congruent figures These triangles have the same size and shape so they are congruent. This triangle is also congruent even though its position has changed.

Figures that have the same shape but not necessarily the same size are similar figures. These parallelograms have the same shape but not the same size so they are similar.

Figures that have the same classification are not always congruent or similar figures. These rectangles are neither the same size nor the same shape, so they are neither similar nor congruent.

Corresponding sides represent the same side of similar figures. Rectangle ABCD and rectangle WXYZ are similar shapes, So, side DC corresponds to side ZY.

Triangle ACB is congruent to Triangle XZY. <A corresponds to <X Side BC corresponds with side YZ.
