All About Sika Deer
All About Sika Deer Yes, you’ve guessed right, I’m not really a British Deer. I was introduced from Japan because of my good looks! I am related to the Red Deer.
What do I look like? I have a light brown coat with creamy spots in Summer. I’m a little smaller than a Fallow and not around in such great numbers.
What do I look like? I have a dark line that runs all the way down my back. Look at my creamy spots.
What do I look like? The male (boy) is called a stag. The Sika casts its antlers in March and the velvet is lost by late August.
What do I look like? My antlers are different from the Red Deer in that they are V shaped and not quite as “showy”.
What do I look like? Sika Deer have white bottoms, bordered with black hair. The tail is white with a thin black line.
What do I look like? The female (girl) Sika called a hind, does not have antlers. The Sika have a white brow line that helps you identify them.
What do I look like? You can see my cream spots, my black legs and my scent glands. I can jump over barriers if I can put my chin on them.
What do I Sound like? Many deer are vocal – they make noises ranging from grunts and roars but the Sika whistles. Follow the web link to hear a Sika whistle. https: //sounds. bl. uk/Enviro nment/British-wildliferecordings/022 MW 1 CDR 0001426 -0200 V 0
Where do you think I like to live?
Lifestyle facts. I like to eat grass and herbs. I also get into trouble when I strip bark off trees to eat.
