CONSTITUTION HIGHLIGHTS Attendance Discipline and Grade Probation Merit/ Demerit System Performance Cuts Uniforms and Supplies Fundraising Trips and Away Events Information in this packet is an overview only. Parents and Cheerleaders are expected to read the entire Cheer Constitution. Please contact coaches if you have questions or need clarification.

ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES Required to attend all mandatory events set on the cheer calendar. Includes

ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES Required to attend all mandatory events set on the cheer calendar. Includes all practices, fundraisers, performances, etc. Excused absences - death in family, personal illness or accident, or special circumstances excused by the coach in advance. You must submit an absence in writing for permission to be excused. Simply putting a reason in writing does not excuse the absence. Unexcused absences- work, birthday parties, vacation, doctor appt. , missed performance due to uniform violations, outside practices, asked to leave practice, etc. Tardies – result in an automatic demerit; Always contact your coach before practice if you are absent. Consequences are ultimately left to the discretion of the coach.

DISCIPLINE AND GRADE PROBATION Any member expelled, suspended, placed in ADC, or assigned SAC/ ISS may be immediately dismissed from the team. Members must meet all current state educational requirements. Members who receive a failing grade in any class for a grading period will be placed on grade probation following the restrictions, limitations, and time period set by the state. Members who fail for two grading periods will be dismissed. Violation of the Student Code of Conduct related to smoking, drug use and alcohol will result in immediate dismissal from the team.

MERIT/ DEMERIT SYSTEM Merits- A merit system is in place to offer cheerleaders the opportunity to offset demerits. Only five merits per semester may be earned. (The first semester begins immediately after tryouts and ends at the conclusion of football season) Demerits- 3 demerits in one week automatically suspends the cheerleader from the following performance. The cheerleader must still attend the performance in uniform. 7 demerits results in a 3 week probation with warning of removal. 10 demerits results in disciplinary hearing with possible removal from the team.

MERIT/ DEMERIT SYSTEM Examples of merits include are, but not limited to- Making straight A’s on report card Performing duties above and beyond what is required Examples of demerits are, but not limited to- Uniform / dressing out violations (includes unsafe hair, jewelry, or clothing) Being late for any activity Failure to turn in specified items or money by given deadline Vulgarity at any time, either in speech, actions or social media, ie: Facebook, Twitter, etc. Being 15 minutes late when picking up cheerleader from practice. Any other infraction of the rules as determined by the coach. .

PERFORMANCE CUTS The coach has the right to replace or dismiss any member from a performance if the cheerleader is not meeting standards for that performance. A member may be cut from a performance for missing practice, excused or unexcused. A member who is cut from a performance must still attend the performance in uniform and assume responsibilities. Performance decisions are at the discretion of the coach.

UNIFORMS AND DRESS ATTIRE Some equipment and uniforms will be purchased by the member.

UNIFORMS AND DRESS ATTIRE Some equipment and uniforms will be purchased by the member. These items will remain the property of the member. The purchase of these items is an obligation that must be met in order to remain a member of the team. Some equipment and uniforms will be provided by the school. The member must pay to replace any lost or damaged articles. Each part of the uniform, whether school or privately owned, must have the uniform number or member’s name on it and must be kept clean at all times. Any altering of the uniform, whether school or privately owned, must have coach approval. All cheerleading uniforms and gear will be worn by members only.

FUNDRAISING Each member will be expected to participate fully in general fundraising activities. Members

Members will be required to turn in fundraising money and paperwork on particular dates set by the coach. Failure to do so will result in one demerit for each day the money or paperwork is late.

Only parental permission, in written form and presented by that parent, will release the cheerleader to ride home with that parent only. Special permission must be granted in writing in advance by the coach and principal. Members are responsible for their equipment for the duration of the trip. Members must conduct themselves appropriately and responsibly on all trips as representatives of EM-SISD.

Practice / Performance Attire You need to be in correct practice or performance uniform.

Practice / Performance Attire You need to be in correct practice or performance uniform. Being out of uniform could have disciplinary actions ranging from, but not limited to, demerit and/ or extra conditioning, loss of opportunity to perform, etc. Out of uniform includes- hair down, wearing jewelry, wearing headbands, chewing gum, no cheer shoes, wrong shirt, wrong shorts, no hair bow, wrong part of uniform (spanks, bow, or sleeves), etc. No one other than a member of cheerleading squad may wear any part of your uniform or cheer gear.
