Membership • Current Total: 75 (all three campuses) – – – Class of 2020: 24 Class of 2021: 35 Class of 2022: 16 • Recruitment: – End of fall term for Class of 2022 and 2023 – Emphasis on: • Community Service • Leadership • Academics – Must be in good academic standing with OU-HCOM • Must pass all semesters without remediation (pass/fail)
Community Service Membership requirement: • 1 st/2 nd years: 12 hours/semester • 3 rd/4 th years: 4 hours/semester Community Service Partners • Good. Works, Inc. – Friday Night Life: a meal for homeless or low socioeconomic status individuals • Project Linus – Make blankets for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need • Race for a Reason (Ohio Health – Many different races, many different charities! • Christmas Giving Tree – Drive for local children in need of gifts
Good Works, Inc. • Non-profit organization – Serves the vulnerable, voiceless, and the powerless in rural Appalachia – Provides assistance for those struggling with homelessness, poverty, and recovery issues
Project Linus • Non-profit organization providing homemade blankets to children in need – “Providing Security through Blankets” – Blankets are hand made and distributed to children's hospitals, shelters, and social service agencies *2018 -2019: Expand to all three campuses
Christmas Giving Tree • Athens County Children Services – Collect and wrap gifts for children in need within the Athens region – “Secret Santa” • December 2019 Now on all three campuses
Race for a Reason • Pick a race and pick a charity – Participants choose between a triathlon, mud run, 5 K run, and 3 K walk and get to chose what charity their race funds go to – Proceeds go to charity of participants’ choice • April 2019 – Athens campus
Academic Initiatives • Scholar 12 program – Promoting research within the osteopathic community – Certificate program providing foundation in the scientific method • Review Sessions – Providing additional instruction for OMS-Is before exams • Lecture Series – – Collaboration with other OU-HCOM organizations Invite physicians to speak to students about being a physician • Student Panels – Panels of older students speaking about residencies and clinical rotations
OU-HCOM Activities • Run with the Executive Dean – Students paint on canvas as a stress relief event • Therapy dogs, yoga, smoothie day – Initiatives from Student Affairs to promote health and wellness • Learning Community Tutors – Weekly review sessions for OMS-Is • OMM Honors TAs – Weekly instruction on OMS-Is in OMM lab
OU-HCOM Activities • New Dean of Athens Campus – Beth Longenecker, DO (OU-COM ‘ 91) • New Pathways to Health and Wellness Curriculum – Progressing to second year • New Medical Education Building – $65 million academic home – Opens Jan, 2021

Distinguished Osteopathic Commitment (DOC) Awards • Organized with Student Government Association • Present awards for faculty, staff, and student – Recipients determined by student ballot • Osteopathic Mentor Award – Given to an Ohio Osteopathic Physician who, by his/her example and involvement, excels in mentorship and provides significant influence to students at OU-HCOM
