Overview and Objectives

The Siemens Insight Programme is designed for students in KS 3 and KS 4.

The Siemens Insight Programme is designed for students in KS 3 and KS 4. The aims of the programme are to: 1. Allow students to develop skills and knowledge related to engineering and technology 2. Provide students with an insight into Siemens 3. Allow students to develop 'essential skills' such as communication, leadership and teamwork, as well as broader knowledge, such as an awareness of potential career paths 4. Allow students to exemplify their skills and knowledge through an independent project

The programme is split into 8 modules in total. Some modules are more tailored

The programme is split into 8 modules in total. Some modules are more tailored towards developing engineering and technology subject knowledge, whilst others are more broad, focussing on topics such as communication in the work place and career paths. Each module also aims to develop one of the 8 essential skills, set out by the Skills Builder Partnership. During the programme, you will be guided by an online presentation for each module. You will also have SIP Student Portfolio in which to answer questions, record your working and complete tasks. Your SIP portfolio can either be printed out and filled in with pens and pencils or it can be completed as an online document. Each module takes between 1 to 2 hours to complete, except Module 4: Independent Project, which will take approximately 3 to 5 hours to complete.

Every module will also aim to develop one of the 8 essential skills identified

Every module will also aim to develop one of the 8 essential skills identified by the Skills Builder Partnership. We hope that during this programme, you will not only develop knowledge and insights into engineering, technology and life at Siemens, but will also develop your essential skills, which will aid students in all aspects of their lives. The 8 essential skills are: Listening; Speaking; Problem Solving; Creativity; Staying Positive; Aiming High; Leadership and Teamwork For each essential skill, you also have a Skills Builder Passport found at the back of your SIP Student Portfolio. This passport presents the first 10 steps associated with building this essential skill. These steps do not have to be developed in any sort of order, nor are there any requirements to what steps you should or should not have achieved yet. These Skills Builder Passports are about YOU and your own strengths and challenges within each essential skill. During every module, you will be asked to reflect on the steps shown in these passports and consider how you might have develop the essential skill through the course of the module.
