shíshálh Nation / British Columbia Foundation Agreement Winter 2021 Update Foundation Agreement This landmark reconciliation agreement between shíshálh Nation (shíshálh) and B. C. , signed in October 2018, recognizes and respects Aboriginal title and rights, and supports self-determination and self-government. The provincial government and shíshálh are working together to protect the environment, as well as promote economic opportunity and growth for shíshálh and the entire Sunshine Coast region. Recent Updates • • The Gravel Lands (DL Lot A 7613, DL Lot A 2725 and DL Block A 8302) transferred to Kwikwil Holdings Ltd, a shíshálh company, in February 2021. B. C. and shíshálh have established strong provisions to ensure drinking water quality is maintained in a section of the Chapman Community Watershed that overlaps with the Gravel Lands. Changes to Trail Access • • Access to the three unauthorized trails located on the Gravel Lands are now closed. Eagle Roost Trail (blue), the BLT Trail (red) and the Chapman Creek Trail (green) are no longer accessible or available for use by the public. The yellow corridors on DL 7613, including Dusty Road, will remain as Crown land. These corridors will continue to be accessible to the public, and will connect to parcels beyond the Gravel Lands, including the Coast Gravity Park. shíshálh Nation / British Columbia Foundation Agreement Winter 2021 Update Recent Updates Continued • • • Representatives from the shíshálh-B. C. Land Use Planning group launched stakeholder and public engagement to encourage input on the land use planning process. Initiatives include virtual engagement sessions with local governments and resource licensees, and a public questionnaire. Since release of the Pender Harbour Dock Management Plan, 87 replacement tenures have been issued. Replacement tenure application information has been provided to most tenure holders in Pender Harbour. B. C. and shíshálh continue to integrate other land water program areas into the Shared Decision-Making process. Applicants continue to apply via Front. Counter BC. In mid-February 2021, the shíshálh B. C Place Names Working Group evaluated all input received regarding the proposed ts’ukw’um - Wilson Creek (community and creek) and skelhp - Saltery Bay (bay) name changes. Ø Place naming decisions for these name changes will be made in Spring 2021 by shíshálh and B. C. The comment period for the salalus - Madeira Park (community) place-name change has been postponed until further notice. Upcoming • • • The shíshálh-B. C. Land Use Planning group continues to carry out studies and collect background information to inform future land use planning discussions. A “What We Heard Report” will be released in the spring of 2021 to report out on the key themes heard during the public engagement process on land use planning. Minor updates to the Pender Harbour Dock Management Plan (DMP), and guidance materials for applicants will be released in the Spring of 2021.
