Show us your muscles, Are you feeling strong? There will be rules and awareness of things that could go wrong. But knowledge is power, New skills and some time, Your shelter building adventures will be just fine. What can a shelter protect us from? What can it provide? You’ll be working in teams, so together you will decide. Using natural resources, tarps and some string Some team challenges, games and silly songs we will sing. Your time at field barn ‘Shelter Builders’ at Field Barn Action Plan To explore the field barn woodland for signs of animal homes and natural shelters. The group will be split up into 4 or 5 shelter teams to decide how and where they will build their own woodland shelters. Teams will need to work as a team to construct a shelter that will fit their whole team in so they are comfortable and sheltered from the elements and possible predators. Teams will need to gather and collect natural resources and materials from around the woodland. Activity missions will be set for clans to earn extra survival resources. Fun games and activities will bring their settlements to life! What will you learn? To engage with nature and interact with the outdoor environment To gain an understanding of nature and how we affect it To be able to access risk and take precautions To gain practical outdoor skills To identify homes of different animals and discuss the different homes we live in. To gain an understanding of how different animals build their shelters and why they live in different places To use new knowledge to inform decisions on designs and construction of own shelters To work as a team, problem solve and communicate different ideas and information. Field Barn is managed by the Cleeve Prior Heritage Trust www. cleevepriorheritagetrust. co. uk ‘Shelter Builders’ is run in association with LEAF outdoors www. leaf-outdoors. co. uk
