Should marijuana be legalized?

Thesis With all the benefits that come with marijuana, it makes no sense as to why it is still illegal. It’s a natural growing plant and the benefits outweigh those so called “risks” that the government think there will be if marijuana became decriminalized.

First Evidence Marijuana has many medicinal uses such as all the states with medical marijuana has proven such as California. Liquid marijuana helps a 6 year old child with seizures that even 24 pills a day didn’t help.

Second Evidence The government refuses to decriminalize marijuana because they think one of the risks is the use of marijuana dramatically increasing when legalized. Portugal has proven by legalizing all drugs that over time they have had a 50% drop in drug use.

Third Evidence Marijuana would also allow the growth of hemp. Hemp can produce as much as four times the amount than trees can produce paper. Hemp fiber is even times stronger than materials such as cotton.

Counter Argument Tobacco and alcohol legalization shows that once marijuana is legal, the use of it will go up. As the use goes up, the use in adolescents will increase as well when it’s not good for younger age kid because the brain isn’t fully developed.

Conclusion Marijuana should be legalized, the way it can benefit our whole country is unimaginable. If we all stand for it and fight to decriminalize it, the government won’t have a choice but to make it legal.
