Prove It • Types of Evidence: – Direct Quotation- use when the author’s exact words add depth, precision, or reliability to the response – Paraphrase- use when the words of the text are not remarkable or if it is necessary to clarify ideas and details when original language is irrelevant – Specific Synopsis- use when several specific portions of the passage are needed to serve as textual evidence

Integrating quotes into your answer. Sentence stems: • When the author says, “quote, ” he implies/ demonstrates/ reveals analysis. – When the author says, “real families sit and wait for a commercial break just to talk to each other”, she implies that communication has broken down due to too much television. • Analysis sentence. According to the text/ author, “quote. ” – People are aware the amount of time spent in front of the television is hurting us. According to the text, “we spend more time facing the screen than facing each other. ”

Integrating quotes into your answer. • The character is described as, “quote, ” which implies analysis. – The character is described herself as, “skinny and flat chested, ” which implies that she is unhappy with her physical appearance. • The author reveals theme/symbol when he/she says, “quote. ” – The author reveals theme of survival when she said, “it turns out I would do the unthinkable if it meant making it out alive. ” • As character name says, “quote, ” the reader becomes aware of analysis. – As Odysseus says, “My quiet Penelope- how well I know-/ would seem a shade before your majesty, ” the reader becomes aware of his ability to flatter to get out of a tough situation.

Rules of SAR • ANSWER the question!!!!!!!!!!!! • Do not start your response with the word BECAUSE. • Always provide evidence from the text. • Do not start a sentence with the words: – Like when – And – But – Because

Practice • Directions: You will practice integrating quotes into your SAR using the sentence stems. Number each one and write the question.

Quotes to integrate: 1.
