General Shop Safety Rules • The most important shop rule is that you are responsible for your own actions • • Always wear Safety glasses while in the shop area. You should not wear loose clothing around power tools Keep your area clean at all times Only the operator should turn on the machine he or she is using

• Always disconnect power cord on power tools when adjusting or changing blades, bits, or doing maintenance. • Use ear protection while using the plainer or other loud tools. • Place oily rags in a red safety can with lid. • Make sure all guards are in place before using all power tools

• Always clamp your wood or metal to the drill press table before drilling. • Know the location of Fire extinguisher, Eye Wash station, Fire Blanket, and how to use them. • Always use helmet, safety goggles, gloves, and protective clothing when welding • Always make sure to close the curtain behind the welding booth

• When welding in an open area make sure you have a welding curtain in place • Be sure and turn on the Exhaust Fan before welding in a booth or open area. • You should store paint cans and flammable material in a Yellow safety cabinet. • When power cords are cracked or damaged you should tag out of service and tell instructor. • When guards are missing you should not continue using the tool

• Never weld near flammable material • When grinding always make sure the sparks are contained • Never stand in water while operating a power tool • Never touch a grounded pipe or object while operating any power tool • Use the right tool to complete a job safely, quickly, and efficiently

• Use extension cords that are large enough for the load and distance • Never use compressed gas or air to clean clothing. • Always use Flashback arrestors on cutting/ welding torches. • Be sure tools are stored in a proper tool storage
