SHOOT THE CHUTE An interactive activity for using and reflecting on all 5 of the learning attributes with a focus on Communication and Collaboration. RUNNING TIME: 60 -90 minutes. Compiled by Mr. Wardman
INSTRUCTIONS (TEACHERS READ AS STATED ONLY) SEPARATE INTO TEAMS Separate into two equal teams Not enough chutes? Select someone to observe and communicate what is happening each round. YOUR OBJECTIVE To get your marble in the end container as fast as you can. THE COURSE Set a starting point (wall/desk) about 6 meters from the container. Be sure the 2 teams are not interfering with each other.
RULES OF THE GAME 1. When the marble is on your chute, you cannot move sideways with the chute in any way. 2. The chute can move up and down and be tilted – do not move sideways. 3. The marble cannot be in contact with any single chute for more than 2 seconds. 4. No other objects than the chutes can touch the marble, especially hands. 5. The marble cannot be thrown in any way, it must be in contact with a chute at all times, unless dropping vertically to a lower elevation. 6. If the marble is dropped, or any of the above rules violated, the marble goes back to the beginning point and the whole team starts over. LET’S CONTINUE – TRIAL 2 Now, work as separate teams for the sake of competition. Solve your dilemma, or if you have been effective so far, find ways to improve your time. Spend 2 minutes communicating to adapt your methods to find the most effective way to move the marble.
