PARENT COMMUNICATION General: Concerns expressed directly to the coach. Notification of any schedule conflicts well in advance. Our athletic program continues during vacation time that occurs during the school year. Therefore, it is important that family vacations be scheduled when your child is not competing. An athlete who is absent from his/her team, during a vacation, must be prepared to accept the consequences determined by the coach. 1. Your athlete should first talk with the coach about his/her concerns (self-advocacy) 2. The parent should call/email to resolve or set up appointment. 3. Please do not approach a coach before or after a contest or practice 4. If the coach cannot be reached after a reasonable amount of time or if the meeting with the coach does not provide a satisfactory resolution, call Curry Gallagher, ext. 3710. 5. 1 s t -Coach 2 n d -Athletic Director 3 r d -Principal

DO attend games and help create a positive atmosphere by cheering provide compliments about staff/situations to me bring to light concerns about mistreatment give coaches an opportunity to address any possible misunderstandings understand playing time is earned in practice daily understand being on a team is a massive commitment understand that coaches are making difficult decisions that are based on what they believe is best for all involved athletes
DO model good sportsmanship by showing respect for the officials, opposing teams, parents and coaches thank a ref know that officials are amatuers know that coaches rate officials to the IHSA and assignors know that the IHSA has a shortage of officials provide a lock for your child to secure their belongings remember that every player is someone’s child applaud accomplishment and effort equally Read the articles provided-good perspective
DO understand that senior night is a pre-game ceremony, not a guarantee of starting or playing time in a competition understand that kids have to attend practice over seasonal breaks provide plenty of notice about scheduling conflicts know that each coach has their own set of rules and team expectations know that practice sessions are closed to parents know that student must attend school for at least 4 periods in order to attend a practice/competition remember these are kids playing a game
DO NOT-1% smoke on campus approach coaches right after a game (24 hours) question coaches about play calling, strategy, playing time or matters concerning anyone but your child cross the line in your treatment of officials offer excuses to your child if they are not playing undermine the authority of coaches/teachers by questions rules/regulations come to events intoxicated All lead to game penalties, dismissal and no trespassing
NO SMOKING ON CAMPUS You will be asked to leave and a 2 nd violation will result in being barred from future contests
THANK YOU
