Shading Device Project Natural Patterns Project by: Marina Engel September 25 th Fall 2016 Assignment Week 5
Design Goals This design analysis was based on the Southern Magnolia tree, I picked this design because the tree is a native of Florida and the southeastern U. S. The two shading devices were separated as: Purpose: to be a shading device for the island where people can walk, sit, read under it. Construction: supported on 4 x 4 posts, 8’ high and it has 3 bays of 7’ 5”x 7’ 5” panels with 15”x 15” tiles. Location: Pigeon Key, FL

Final Selection + Rationale + Conclusion I chose the shading device 1, which is the design that was based on the branch of the Magnolia tree. I chose that design because the shadow that it made had a more abstract look. From the light analysis that one showed to be a better shading device. The second shading device, which was the flower shape wasn’t as interesting as the branch shape and it had too many open areas, making the light analysis not as successful as the first one.
