When you turn it in it will count for 200 -300 points • On the FRONT of your booklet include a title, a box for a future picture, and your name/class title/period • DO NOT LOSE YOUR BOOKLET!

About the Author: Walter Dean Myers 1. Myers is the critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of more than 80 books for children and young adults 2. Walter began writing at a young age. He had a speech impediment and his teacher thought writing might help him overcome it 3. In 2012 he was named National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature-Candidates are selected based on their ability to relate to children 4. Myers says he writes because he truly enjoys it. He says, “it is not something that I am doing just for a living, this is something that I so love to do. ” 5. Myers died in New York City on July 1, 2014 after a brief illness

Booklet PAGE 6 Title PAGE 6 in your booklet Guilty or Innocent? and make the chart below. Use the whole page! GUILTY INNOCENT “I didn’t say you threw it. I just said “Run. ” You should’ve run”. In the flashback on page 43, Steve let his friend Tony take the fall for something he had done. “What did I do? Anybody can walk in a drugstore and look around. Is that what I’m on trial for? I didn’t do nothing!” (page 115). Steve seems convincing when saying that he’s innocent. For the rest of the examples, find a quote from the novel and explain it-just like we did on our evidence chart for our essay!

What would you decide? • On page 7, write a DENSE paragraph (6+ sentences) explaining what you would decide and WHY • Use a quote from page 6 of your booklet to support your decision • It is okay to use “I” for this assignment, but you MUST still introduce AND explain your quote!
