Deceit, Plans, Ambushes and Betrayals All Lead to the Feud Time Pain God loved the Hatfield’s and Mc. Coy’s both! John 3: 16 KJV For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Was the feud worth it? Did you know that one of the patriarchs Randolph (Randall, Ole Ran'l) Mc. Coy or William Anderson (Devil Anse) Hatfield was born-again and baptized in 1911?
Was the feud worth it? I know last week heard about PRIDE, but a lot of this happened because of. . . JEALOUSY
Saul became jealous of David “Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands” 1 Samuel 18: 8 -9 KJV 8 And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? 9 And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.
Escalation He even tried to kill David 1 Samuel 18: 11 -13 NKJV 11 And Saul cast the spear, for he said, “I will pin David to the wall!” But David escaped his presence twice. 12 Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul. 13 Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
So, how did David handle this? So, how would you handle this? He acted wisely 1 Samuel 18: 14 NKJV And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him.
Meanwhile. . . And Saul was even further worried 1 Samuel 18: 15 NKJV Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him.
Here we see further shady and shifty plans of Saul… He offered Merab to David (he had promised his daughter to the victor against Goliath) 1 Samuel 18: 17 NKJV Then Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab; I will give her to you as a wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight the LORD’S battles. ” For Saul thought, “Let my hand not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him. ”
We are seeing a pattern. . . Here we see the deceit of Saul 1 Samuel 18: 19 NKJV But it happened at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as a wife.
1 Samuel 18: 20 -27 NKJV 20 Now Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David. And they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. 21 So Saul said, “I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. ” Therefore Saul said to David a second time, “You shall be my son-in-law today. ” 22 And Saul commanded his servants, “Communicate with David secretly, and say, ‘Look, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you. Now therefore, become the king’s son-in-law. ’” 23 So Saul’s servants spoke those words in the hearing of David. And David said, “Does it seem to you a light thing to be a king’s son-in-law, seeing I am a poor and lightly esteemed man? ”
24 And the servants of Saul told him, saying, “In this manner David spoke. ” 25 Then Saul said, “Thus you shall say to David: ‘The king does not desire any dowry but one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king’s enemies. ’” But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. 26 So when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to become the king’s son-in-law. Now the days had not expired; 27 therefore David arose and went, he and his men, and killed two hundred men of the Philistines. And David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full count to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as a wife.
“Drats!” (my guess of what he said under his breath when David brought the dowry)
Do you know what usually happens to jealousy? It grows! It festers. It ruins lives. 1 Samuel 18: 28 -29 KJV 28 And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul’s daughter loved him. 29 And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.
Well? Does jealousy have a hold on your life? Does jealousy cloud your judgment? Does your jealousy remove happiness from your life?

You know what is so sad? Saul was king! Saul was famous Saul was well liked…yet Saul was miserable.

So, how did David handle this? David behaved MORE WISELY! 1 Samuel 18: 30 KJV Then the princes of the Philistines went forth [to war]: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
Saul did not give up on his feud with David 1 Samuel 19: 1 KJV And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
Our feud often becomes other’s feud by necessity (we think, “What choice do I have? ”) Jonathon refused to feud with David – vs 2 1 Samuel 19: 2 KJV 2 But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:
1 Samuel 19: 10 KJV And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul’s presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night. A feud often easily fuels itself - it is not hard to argue! A feud removes fellowship – David fled to avoid more problems

Saul did not let up A feud pushes us, challenges us, encourages us to chose sides 1 Samuel 22: 1 KJV 1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him.
What is sad. . . Innocents suffer Saul had 85 priests and their women and children and livestock killed because they unknowingly fed David (the king’s son-in-law)
Honestly, could you behave like David did? Even though Saul chased David to kill him, David would not return the evil David cut off a corner of Saul’s robe (while he was asleep) and spared him It would take the Lord’s help!
David was trying to break the feud by godly actions Saul was ashamed and went home He asked David to not wipe his name from the earth David so promised
David again spared Saul’s life when he could have ended it He publicly asked him to stop the feud He publicly promised to not hurt Saul He helped end the feud He gained peace 1 Samuel 26: 25 KJV Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

But even then David had to leave the country Feuding hurts Feuding ruins lives
Saul died. . . Ishbosheth became king over Israel The tribe of Judah, made David king. Asahel lost his life. . . The feud is back on (again)

The feud is back on! Satan will use anything and anyone to fuel discord and problems with us. We need to make sure we do not fall to his plans, deceit, and ambush.

Our feuds cause countless problems. 2 Samuel 2: 17 -26 NKJV 17 So there was a very fierce battle that day, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David. 18 Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab and Abishai and Asahel. And Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle. 19 So Asahel pursued Abner, and in going he did not turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner. 20 Then Abner looked behind him and said, “ Are you Asahel? ”He answered, “I am. ”
21 And Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and lay hold on one of the young men and take his armor for yourself. ” But Asahel would not turn aside from following him. 22 So Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I face your brother Joab? ” 23 However, he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner struck him in the stomach with the blunt end of the spear, so that the spear came out of his back; and he fell down there and died on the spot. So it was that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died, stood still.
24 Joab and Abishai also pursued Abner. And the sun was going down when they came to the hill of Ammah, which is before Giah by the road to the Wilderness of Gibeon. 25 Now the children of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and became a unit, and took their stand on top of a hill. 26 Then Abner called to Joab and said, “Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the latter end? How long will it be then until you tell the people to return from pursuing their brethren? ”
