All sentences can be classified according to the number and kinds of clauses they contain. The three basic types of sentence structures are: SIMPLE, COMPOUND, and COMPLEX

Important: A CLAUSE IS A GROUP OF WORDS WITH ITS OWN SUBJECT AND VERB.

Important: A CLAUSE IS A GROUP OF WORDS WITH ITS OWN SUBJECT AND VERB. AN INDEPENDENT CLAUSE IS A COMPLETE SENTENCE THAT CAN STAND ALONE. A DEPENDENT CLAUSE (subordinate clause) DOES NOT MAKE SENSE BY ITSELF. (CANNOT STAND ALONE)
