SENTENCE TYPES PROJECT. BY: Jack Ortolano
Simple • A simple sentence is a sentence consisting of only one clause, with a single subject and predicate. • Usually these sentences contain no commas inside and have one clause, and are also noticeably shorter than other types of sentences. • Simple sentences are also called independent clauses. • It expresses one complete thought.
Compound • A compound sentence is a sentence that contains more than one subject or predicate. • Sometimes the two clauses are connected by a conjunction. The coordinating conjunctions are "and", "but", "for", "nor", "yet", or "so".
Complex • A complex sentence is made up of an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses connected to it. A dependent clause is similar to an independent clause, or complete sentence, but it doesn’t have one of the parts that would make it a complete sentence. • Dependent clauses and independent clauses can be combined to form these types of sentences.
Compound-Complex • A compound-complex is a sentence with several independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses • Compound-Complex sentences can be combined by FANBOYS • It is as simple as combining a simple sentence, and then combining a complex sentence to the end to make it make sense.
