Sensory figures • Objective: to identify historical persons and why they are important, to explain how they changed history. • You will be responsible for creating a sensory figure as a class for Draco by following the instructions given on your graphic organizer hand-out (front of binder) Then you will use Lycurgus and complete a SF for him in your group. You must explain why these figures are remembered, what did they do to change the course of history? Include their name and a date or time period for them. First you take notes using history facts, then you change those notes into senses. See Draco as an example. (use link on Ancient Greek tab on our website. (PEDKa. P) • HW: use 3 of the 6 senses from the instructions about SF and complete one for Cleisthenes due tomorrow. (lined paper-stamp HW)
Draco Notes: http: //odraconiandevil. co. uk/ First to try and change the government Made harsh laws, all crimes punished by death-Although impartial, according to Aristotle, the newly-recorded laws were so harsh they were written in blood instead of ink. Under Draco's codes, even the most trivial of criminal offenses (i. e. stealing an apple) were penalized by death. First laws written down-Draco was a legislator in Athens who was authorized by the Alcmaeonidae (aristocratic rulers) to write the law codes around 621 B. C. The newly-recorded laws were inscribed on wooden tablets known as axones. Although some of Draco's life was recorded by Plutarch, Aristotle is the primary source of the surviving information regarding Draco. For the most part, little is known of his life apart from the fact that the codes he wrote comprised Athens' first constitution
Sensory Figure ex Draco (time period-add) I see myself writing the laws down on wooden tablets called axones. I hear the Alcmaeonidae say The government needs reforming So I am the first to try to do this in 621 BE. I am punishing every crime by death, even If one only steals an apple!
