Web based program designed to assist students and parents with the post-secondary college planning process: Conduct a College Search/Virtual Tours SCOIR Use data to compare search results to the acceptance histories of former Cardozo students. (Scattergrams) Use the College Match feature to identify schools to which students with similar academic profiles have been admitted Process college applications, request letters of recommendations from teachers, request college application fee waivers and more!

Senior Profiles • Senior Profiles are heavily relied upon to write your letters of recommendation • Many submitted their profiles before the pandemic • If you did not submit your profile OR if you’ve had any updates to your profile they should be added to your SCOIR account under: • • “Activities & Achievements” “Add a statement about yourself”-tell us anything you feel we should know including if you have been severely/uniquely impacted by COVID
Autobiographies ■ Another tool used to write thorough letters of recommendation ■ Autobiographies were due in June 22 nd ■ Extension will be provided until – Monday, October 5 ■ Optional Parent Brag sheet also due Monday, October 5 th – Instructions on the same document ■ Email it to your College Counselor – Please send as attachment, not a google link!

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS & PRIVACY ACT-FERPA ■ In order to apply to college, you must give your Counselors & Teachers permission to send your documents “I hereby authorize my high school counselors and administrators to release all academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and other reasonably requested educational records to (i) all colleges and postsecondary institutions to which I indicate that I intend to apply and (ii) all other institutions, such as athletic governing associations and organizations offering scholarships, to which I request that they be sent. ” ■ You will be prompted to sign BOTH the FERPA Waiver and Release forms. – Can be accessed under “My Profile” – Click the link for a demonstration of how to sign: https: //scoir. helpdocs. io/article/zl 60 heo 6 tj-ferpa-release-and-waivers-thestudent-perspective Select “Granted” for both the FERPA Waiver and Release
SAT/ACT ■ Most colleges have gone ”test-optional” ■ CUNY will not accept or review test scores ■ Remember that you are responsible for sending your official SAT/ACT scores to your colleges – If you are submitting test scores, you must log into your – SAT College Board account: https: //collegereadiness. collegeboard. org/sat/scores or – ACT account: https: //www. act. org/content/act/en/products-andservices/the-act/scores/sending-your-scores. html and request that a test report be sent to each college you are applying to ■ You do NOT need final SAT/ACT results to complete your college application. Fee Waivers for College Applications ■ If you would like to request a fee waiver for college applications follow EACH step below: 1. First, you MUST fill out your Family Income Inquiry form, formerly known as the “School Lunch Form” by October 5 th. 2. Fee Waiver for CUNY-If applying to CUNY, please email Mrs. Wirtheim at lwirtheim@schools. nyc. gov after October 15 th with your FULL NAME and OSIS. She will verify eligibility as listed in your Family Income Inquiry form and if eligible, will provide you with a fee waiver code to enter within your CUNY application. 3. Fee Waiver for all other colleges-Within SCOIR, under “Application Documents” select, “Request a fee waiver. ” 1. If applying to college on the Common App, in the Profile section of the Common App tab, also select the fee waiver indicators that apply to you. Then submit your request.
Parchment ■ Allows your transcript to be sent to your colleges ■ Create an account asap – www. parchment. com ■ Request that your transcript be sent to “Common App” – Do not request it be sent to specific colleges ■ Your CUNY application does not require the use of Parchment ■ Fee: $12 covers your initial transcript request
Recommendations ■ Teacher Recommendations should be requested with your SCOIR account. ■ Counselor recommendations are NOT required for CUNY, SUNY and some private and out of state colleges.

Black Common Application ■ Historically Black colleges and universities HBCU’s or HBCUs offer all students, regardless of race, an opportunity to develop their skills and talents. ■ Schools include Howard University, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spellman College, Hampton University, and more ■ You can use the Black Common Application to apply to 54 HBCU’s for one $20 fee ■ https: //commonblackcollegeapp. com/ ■ Not all HBCU’s are included in the Black Common Application. Opportunity Programs ■ Programs funded by New York state designed to meet the needs of students who are considered to be economically disadvantaged and academically underprepared. – Students receive additional financial aid and support services ■ CUNY: SEEK/College Discovery ■ SUNY: Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) ■ Private Colleges & Universities: Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) ■ These Freshman Profiles are different for eligible students

Informing the College Office of your applications ■ It is ESSENTIAL that the College Office be aware of EVERY college you intend on applying to! ■ Here is how you will communicate this – Sign in to your SCOIR account and add each college you are applying to under the “APPLYING” list in your account. Scholarships ■ A scholarship is financial support awarded to a student, based on academic achievement or other criteria that may include financial need, for the purpose of schooling. There are various types of scholarships – the two most common being merit-based and need-based. The donor or department funding the scholarship sets the criteria for recipient selection, and the grantor specifically defines how the money is to be applied. ■ Applying to scholarships involves research and effort. The amount of effort placed in scholarship acquisition is up to you, but the more scholarships you apply for, the better chances you have.
