Week 1 Science Hearing Touch Sight Taste Smell

Remember: We use adjectives to describe how something feels. Can you think of some of these words?

See how many of these things you can find. It could be in your garden or in the park!

Science Experiment: Tasting without your nose! *Did you know: Without your nose, you may not be able to tell the difference between foods! What you need: • An adult to help • A blindfold • Foods to taste, such as different flavoured jelly beans, different fruit and vegetable slices, or a variety of yogurts (Use what you have at home!) • Spoons, if necessary • A cup of drinking water What to do: • Put your blindfold on • Pinch your nose • Taste the flavour of one food at a time (you will need an adult to help you with this) • Can you identify what it is? (You may want to take a drink of water before tasting again) • Now try the same food without your nose pinched. Now do you know what it is?

Week 1 History Time Capsule What is a time capsule? A time capsule is like a frozen moment in time. You can look back on your time capsule in the future when you are bigger. You will be able to look back at what life was like in 2020 and see how your life and the world has changed!

What could you write about in your time capsule? • Your favourite things (colour, food/drink, book, TV programme, clothes) • Your friends • Your school • Your family What could you put into your time capsule? • Some art work • Photographs • Magazines/newspapers/books • *Don’t put in food or anything that will go off!

When you have decided what you would like to put into your time capsule, you will need a shoebox or container to keep everything in. You can decorate your container with stickers, paint or fancy paper. Whatever you have at home! And don’t forget to pick somewhere to keep it safe!

Week 1 Geography Water Safety

Why is this important?

What are some ways you can stay safe when you go swimming? What is the little girl wearing on her arms? What is the job of a lifeguard? Why do you think you should go swimming with an adult?

Have a look at the picture. What are some of the ways the children are being safe at the pool?

Design a water safety poster Using everything you know about water safety, design a poster telling people how to keep safe in the water.

Week 2 Science If you have a packet of microwave popcorn at home, pop it in the microwave and watch! What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? How does it feel? How does it taste? Write it in your copy. Some words to use: Tasty, white, buttery, salty, hot, popping, soft, yummy. Can you think of more?

Write about your year in Senior Infants. Below is just an example with some ideas but you can do it whatever way you like.

Aistear – Summer Safety/Looking Back Role play: set up a recycling centre and help people at home to recycle Playdough: make all the things that you would bring to the beach to stay safe in the sun (e. g. suncream) Small world: use your figures/lego characters/ dolls/ cut out characters. Scenes to play – the beach, a swimming pool Construction: use your blocks/lego/cardboard boxes to build a time capsule! Junk art: Design your own sun hat! Use recyclables at home Drawing: Your favourite memory from Senior Infants
