SEMINAR 1. Title : (Superconducting) Quantum Computing 2. Speaker : Yonuk Chong ( Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, KRISS ) 3. Time : 16: 00 – 17: 00, Thursday, December 21, 2017 4. Place : e+ Lecture Hall (room 83188), 2 nd Research Building, Sungkyunkwan University 5. Summary : Last two decades were amazingly exciting time for quantum technologies. Never before mankind has had more control on quantum states than now. Today, we expect that the realization of a quantum "computer" might not be too far. Among many candidate quantum platforms, the superconducting circuit(yes, circuit!) is now considered as the most promising one for building a scalable quantum computer. In this short talk, I will briefly review recent developments in the field of (superconducting) quantum computing research. And then I will introduce our current activities in KRISS. I will explain how to make a qubit(quantum bit) out of a superconducting circuit called Josephson junctions. Quantum state manipulation and measurement of a single qubit will be shown. It will be briefly introduced how we can evaluate our quantum operation‘s fidelity. Then an example of another key ingredient of quantum computing, entanglement of qubits, will be shown. Finally a brief introduction on why we (may) need a hybrid system for quantum computer will be mentioned. 6 Background : • Education Ph. D.
