A Learning plan and Autobiography The purpose of this excersice is to assist you articulating your key goals and aspirations within the GL Program as well as identifying a personal learning plan to facilitate your success. In this way you will construct the first part of your Professional Vision on your leadership traject. Step 1 Aspirations : Write an autobiographal story that might appear in the India Times on this date 15 years from now. This story should identify your notable accomplishments and your newsworthy success. What will you have achieved that will fullfill your dreams? What outcomes would make you ecstatically happy? What Legacy do you want to be known for?
A Learning plan and Autobiography Step 2 The Competing Values Profile Read the webpages on the Quinn model (the CV Profile model). Do the “Quinn test” on http: //www. ifbd. be/en/quinn_test/ or http: //www. octogramtest. com/en/ Read the feedback report. Some roles will be well developed and others less. You must STARR the different roles in your own profile (use the excel sheet GL Role & Competencies Development).
Step 3 Interviews (Feedback) Interview A – Who are you ? Interview a member of your family or someone who knows you very well. Ask that person to describe what they see as your unique strengths and capabilities. What does he or she see for you in your future? Interview B – Where do you want go ? Interview an International Manager someone who knows the field of leadership & management very well. Ask that person to describe what they see as their unique strengths and capabilities. What does he or she see for you in your future? See for instance the Philips Indian Leadership clips
Step 3 Interviews (cont) Include (next to your own questions) the following questions in your interview: • Who do you know that you admire a great deal because of their success in life? What capabilities and attributes do they possess • Who do you know that has failed to achieve their potential? What do you see as the most significant causes of their failure? • What do you see as the distinctive and notable capabilities I possess (or with interview B: needs to possess). • In what areas do you think I should focus my improvement and development efforts? • What do you see me ( interview B: in general the leader) doing in 15 years ? Finally, students should use all this information to create a personal development or improvement plan. Five questions can help guide the development activities. If done well, this will be a document that students will cherish and will want to read and reread as the years go by.
Step 4 Planning: Now identify the development activities which you will engage if you are to achieve your aspirations. With the insight you have gained from step 2 and 3, identify the things you must do to help you achieve what you hope to accomplish. Focus on the program ahead but also take life in business as a goal • What roles do you want to develop from the competing values model? • What literature will you read ? • What people will you get to know? Especially for obtaining an interview ( and placement or job experience. ) • In what extracurricular or life balance activities will you engage to develop the wanted skills ? (remember swim in the water) • What intellectual, spiritual and social activities will be most meaningful?
