Features Safety While normal tempered glass tends to shatter on impact, laminated glass with S-Lec Film may break but fragments remain adhered on the interlayer film to minimize injuries. Because the laminated glass doesn't shatter into small pieces, a degree of visibility is maintained. Security Car burglaries and theft are on the rise. While tempered glass can be broken in an instant, if a car's side and other windows are made of laminated glass with S-Lec Film, the strong, flexible interlayer film makes glass very difficult to penetrate. Thieves usually give up breaking into the car as it takes more time. UV Filtering Laminated glass with S-Lec Film filters out more than 99% of the ultraviolet rays that cause sunburns and are harmful to the skin. The film also prevents the discoloration and deterioration of vehicle interiors. Sound Insulation S-Lec Film for automotive laminated glass effectively reduces sound from the car exterior, such as traffic noise and the piercing shrill of wind. Using S-LEC™ Sound Acoustic Film with higher sound insulation properties than other standard interlayer films drastically enhances the quiet and comfort of the car's interior. Solar Control S-LEC™ Solar Control Film reduces the transmission of heat (mid-infrared) rays from the sun, effectively controlling the in-car temperature and creating a comfortable environment, while improving fuel economy. Tests have shown that with S-LEC™ Solar Control Film applied to the windshield glass, the surface temperature of the steering wheel, that becomes too hot to touch when parked in the summer, was approximately 10 degrees cooler. Compact cars in a traffic jam that use air conditioning can expect an increase in fuel economy of approximately 3%.

The Team Concept It is our goal to make SSA and ourselves successful. This can only be attained if we achieve a spirit of cooperation and support that is commonly referred to as TEAMWORK. Teamwork is familiar in the context of a sports team. For example, everyone recognizes that a football team can’t score a touchdown unless the effort and timing of each player is planned and coordinated. At SSA, teamwork goes beyond just the production line. The effort of associates in every department contributes to support our basic business, which is manufacturing and shipping quality products to customers. Each associate is responsible to work productively and to respect, cooperate and support other associates in their workgroup and throughout the total organization. The teamwork concept extends through the requirements for safety, quality, good housekeeping, and personal grooming.

The Team Concept (Cont. ) These traits can be described as having

The Team Concept (Cont. ) These traits can be described as having a “good attitude. ” Possessing these teamwork characteristics along with a good attitude are required to work successfully at SSA. Teamwork and CARE Meetings CARE meetings were established due to the enforcement of teamwork. The purpose of the meetings is to help everyone communicate and coordinate the group effort, Team by Team. The meetings also help to identify problems and develop solutions to improve the efficiency of work. By supporting and assisting each other, our SSA Team is sure to be effective in reaching our goals. Like a football team, every SSA associate’s effort must be coordinated for the SSA team to be successful.

The Importance of Quality SSA’s fundamental purpose is to manufacture and deliver products that satisfy our customers’ requirements for performance and reliability. Meeting this objective depends on many factors including, but not limited to the following: Good product designs Quality Purchased Materials Reliable manufacturing equipment Careful, conscientious and high quality work by all associates.

The Importance of Quality (Cont. ) High quality work means performing the job

The Importance of Quality (Cont. ) High quality work means performing the job correctly. It also means avoiding difficulties before they occur by constantly looking for potential problems or obstacles. Through contribution of ideas for improvements to SSA’s operations goals for high quality can be achieved. Swift response is critical when a problem is discovered. One must analyze the facts and quickly introduce countermeasures so that the good quality record can be preserved.

The Importance of Quality (Cont. ) All of these responsibilities apply to

The Importance of Quality (Cont. ) All of these responsibilities apply to every SSA associate, office based and factory based. Everyone must work together. A mistake in planning, testing, accounting, or shipping can be as detrimental to SSA’s success as a missing part or an incorrect action on the production process. Being totally error free must always be the target. This starts with each associate striving to complete their individual job without mistakes. We must work together to coordinate our individual efforts so the sum of all activities is the efficient and consistent delivery of high quality products. That is our goal, our challenge and our commitment.

Process Control SPC is used to control three element in the manufacturing process at Sekisui S-Lec. These three processes are: Thickness Gloss Roughness The Run Rules are used to help determine if any of these processes are out of control.

Process Control Cont. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The Run Rules: Are there any points below the LCL or above the UCL Are two out of three subsequent point in zone “A” or beyond Are four out of five subsequent points in zone “B” or beyond Are eight or more points on one side of the center line Are there six or more subsequent points steadily increasing or are there six or more subsequent point steadily decreasing?

Case Study THICKNESS PROFILE During a three week period the thickness profile was tracked. This process is the first checked and first brought into specification. If the thickness profile is out then the emboss pattern will not transfer to the material properly. This chart shows how, during start up, the process can break rules 1 -3 of the Run Rules in the X-bar chart. By doing so, the process is out of control and needs to be brought back into control. (Start up is when the process is started back after maintenance and the material is beginning to be brought back into control)

Case Study GLOSS During a three week period the Gloss profile was tracked. This

Case Study GLOSS During a three week period the Gloss profile was tracked. This process is the second checked and the next to be brought back into specification. This chart shows how, during start up, the process can break rules 1, 2 and 4 of the Run Rules in the X-bar chart and rule 1 in the R chart. By doing so, the R chart is out of control and the process limits are meaningless. The process engineer working with the production supervisor will make adjustment to the line to bring this process to the specifications requested by the customer.

Case Study ROUGHNESS (RZ) During a three week period the Roughness profile was tracked.

Case Study ROUGHNESS (RZ) During a three week period the Roughness profile was tracked. This process is the final checked and the last to be brought into specification. This chart shows how, during start up, the process can break rules 1 and 2 of the Run Rules in the X-bar chart. By doing so, the process is out of control and must be brought back into limits. The Process Engineer working with the Production Supervisor will make adjustment to the line to bring this process to the specifications requested by the customer.

Case Study IN CONTROL PROCESS The above chart show the process looks after all specification limits have been met and the line has been brought under control. The Production Supervisor along with the Quality Technician will make periodic checks to ensure the process remain in control. A Production Technician makes checks on every roll to insure that the process stays within customer specifications.
