Section B: Writing
TASK • Summarise what the article we were looking at this morning was about in less that 15 words. You have 3 minutes to complete this task
• In section B of your unit one examination you are expected to answer two creative writing questions. • One question you will spend 25 minutes answering and the other you will spend 35 minutes answering.
• In this lesson you will be answering a section B style question, in which you will be able to draw on some of the things we have already been studying.
This is your exam style question • Write an opinion piece for a local newspaper explaining why you think children aged between 10 -16 should give ‘Postcode’ the new BBC T. V. serial a chance by watching at least the first four episodes. You can use any material from the article you think is relevant. You will have to make up some additional details to make your argument compelling.
• What do you think will be important when it comes to answering this question? • Talk with your partner about what you will need to think about – Structure (you should plan what you are going to write) – Persuasive Techniques (How will you convince people your opinion is right? ) – TAP (Who is your article aimed at? How will this affect how it is written? ) – Presentational Features (How will you lay it out, will you use pictures, headlines etc. ) – Sentence structure (vary the length of your sentences. Some should be very short-3 words, and some should be longer broken up by commas or semi-colons. Ask me if you are uncertain)
• You will have 5 minutes to plan and 25 minutes to write an answer to this question.
Proof read your article for accuracy • Then swap with your partner and read what they have written carefully
