Section 16 3 Representing and Describing Transformations 1
Section 16. 3: Representing and Describing Transformations 1
Objective(s): By following instructions, students will be able to: 1. Describe transformations in the coordinate plane using algebraic representations and words. 2
Def: A transformation is a function that changes the position, shape, and/or size of a figure. Def: A pre-image is before the transformation. Def: An image is after the transformation. Def: A rigid motion (isometry) is a transformation that changes the position without changing the size or shape of the figure. Ex. Translations (slide), reflections (flip), and rotations (turns). 3
explai n 1 A Use coordinate notation to write the rule that maps each preimage to its image. Then identify the transformation and confirm that it preserves length and angle measure. 4
explai n 1 A Use coordinate notation to write the rule that maps each preimage to its image. Then identify the transformation and confirm that it preserves length and angle measure. 5
Your. Turn #1 Use coordinate notation to write the rule that maps each preimage to its image. Then identify the transformation and confirm that it preserves length and angle measure. 6
explai n 2 A Use coordinate notation to write the rule that maps each preimage to its image. Then confirm the transformation is not a rigid motion. 7
explai n 2 B Use coordinate notation to write the rule that maps each preimage to its image. Then confirm the transformation is not a rigid motion. 8
Your. Turn #2 Use coordinate notation to write the rule that maps each preimage to its image. Then confirm the transformation is not a rigid motion. 9
Revisit Objective(s): Did we. . . 1. Describe transformations in the coordinate plane using algebraic representations and words? 10
