Section 1: Displacement, Velocity, and Acceleration
Displacement: Is the distance from where you start to where you finish. Δd=df-di
Velocity: How fast and in what direction (vector quantity) V = ∆d/t Speed: How fast (scalar quantity) Average Velocity: Overall velocity or the total displacement divided by the total time. Instantaneous Velocity: Velocity at a given moment.
Sample Calcs: Q 1: What is the average velocity of a car that moved 60 km in 3 hours? Q 2: How far will a car travel in 25 min at 12 m/s?

Cable Car Demo: Find the cars speed and how far it will go in 6 seconds: ΔX=_____ t=_______
Acceleration (a) : Rate that an object changes its velocity or speed and direction. Linear Acceleration: acceleration along a straight path Centripetal Acceleration: Acceleration due to a change in direction
What linear acceleration means: For every one second that passes, the rockets velocity will increase by ______m/s
Acceleration Equations: Change in velocity with acceleration: a = (Vf – Vi )/t Displacement with acceleration: df = di +vit + 1/2 at 2 Final velocity after displacement: Vf 2 = Vi 2 + 2 aΔd
